Kudos to Kirti for pointing this out. If you drag and drop the toolbar items it adds that image to the editor. Should disable drag for toolbar items.

Closed Issue: Setting the height and width via control attribute [4438]

Whenever I set the height using the control's height attribute (ex. 250 or 250px), the control doesn't render correctly. It seems like the IFrame height is still being rendered as 500px;
Example:

It would be nice if the toolbar buttons wrapped to a new line when the control is resized to a smaller size. (resize capability is pending.)

You need to set head tag to runat="server". Control is attempting to add javascript and css into the head tag.

Thanks for your wonderful control.

When i set Height and Width for Rich Text Editor Control on Asp.Net Page then only its effecting on toolbar its not effecting for IFrame.

When i check your code, the iFrame height and weight fields are setting on CreateChildControls of Rte.cs, thats why its not effecting for Iframe, If you move to AddAttributesToRender method then its working fine.

Is there any way to set visibility for Toolbar Buttons?

I found that i can expose some properties in Rte.cs for some toolbar buttons and based on those properties i can add those respective buttons on "OnPreRender" of rte.cs.

Is that only way i can set visibility or is there other way?

Presently i am looking this control for testing only. Can you use this control on any real time project by changing source code as i mentioned above.

I am still getting this error. Like motzart I am using this in a DetailsView. The page the DetailsView is on has a masterpage with a ScriptManager, not sure if it matters.

I have used this editor on web page. When i try to get the text bu using Rte1.Text.trim(), it is giving blank string. I am not sure why it is behaving strange. I request you to please help me out.

I have found that unless you switch to HTML view in the control, the Text property will not be populated correctly. This is using a base install of the control.

This issue is related to the javascript that the control generates is not unique to the specific instance of the control. Variable name and function name conflicts cause issues with multiple instances of the RTE on one page. To get around this you could either change the rte javascript objects and functions to account for multiple instances, or change the source so the javascript is generated dynamically in the C# code which enables unique names to be created. Both options require a good deal of work, I opted for option 2. There may be a better/easier way to do this... but I couldn't find one.

Hello, The changes involved are quite vast. Unfortunately I don't currently have the time in my schedule to go through all of the modifications needed and post them here. My work load should lighten as summer approaches and then perhaps I can craft together something to share and maybe even worth suggesting to be added to future release. Sorry for not being able to share more at this current moment. A lot of the code is actually Javascript code which needs to be redone. All of the "loose" functions in the js files of the RTE need to be put in to objects... the C# code then needs to be modified to create unique instances of the objects for each rte. This methodology can be studied by looking at the code of other AJAX controls... the AJAX Toolkit is a good place to look.

When resetting the application domain (e.g. recycling App Pool, starting/stopping App Pool, resetting IIS, restarting the server), the icons break and cannot be viewed. The only way to get them back is to re-enter the information into the RTE control.

I was testing this control, but it happens that I always need to modify the width and the height, to fit the example form, when I did that, the control did the opposite way, increasing the size, and sometimes overlapping some parts of the form. Does it have some kind of solution?

Hi, I am using the RichTextEditor on a page with an ascx header control, on the header then are asp link buttons. When I click one of the link buttons I get the "potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client" error because the text in the RichTextEditor contains html tags (depending on what I put in the editor). I know that the text needs to be encoded before the page is posted back but am not sure how to go about this. I don't want to turn page validation off for security reasons.

Somebody else created this page but they have now left the company so I am a bit frustrated as I don't think this page has ever worked properly.

This is my link button on the ascx control -

Same here. I got the control up and running very easy on a regular page but am encountering issues when using a master page....

When putting the control in a div tag that has its z-index set so that it overlaps other divs (layering), the control has the following issues:

1. Font type and size drop downs disconnect from their controls. The lists appear several inches down the control from where they should be.
2. Foreground and background color pickers, smiley picker, and link creator dialogs render underneath text box instead of on top of it.
3. Text box does not resize properly. It will neither shrink if the parent control is smaller than the text box's default size, nor stretch if the parent control is larger.

Issue #1 (Font type and size drop downs disconnecting) happens with me without setting z-index on my divs, only using relatively positioned divs with padding.
